Family Favorite Smoothies

Happy Foodie Friday! As always, today I’m linking up with Emily from Whatever Floats Your Oats, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl, Farrah from Fairyburger and Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama to create awesome healthy recipes! Be sure to check out all the amazing recipes in this link up and don’t forget to add your recipes as well! Today’s theme is Chilled Drinks and Smoothies!

I’m going back to the archives to share some of our family’s favorite smoothie recipes.  I always have fresh and frozen fruit on hand for smoothie making.  Instead of putting ice in our smoothies, we use frozen fruit as our Ice component and add small amounts of milk or juice as needed with the majority of the liquid being water.  The water is mostly for the blender to have enough liquid and to get the smoothie to the consistency we like.

When Mini Me has friends over, they love to have smoothies as their snack which is fine by me.  It makes them feel like they are having some sort of yummy treat and it lets me know they are eating something nutritious instead of junk.

Today, I’m sharing our Tropical Bomb Pop Smoothie, Strawberry Milkshake Smoothie, Orange Creamsicle Smoothie and Peach Daiquiri Smoothie.

Tropical Bomb Pop Smoothie
handful of frozen mangoes
1 banana
couple handfuls frozen tropical fruit (peaches, pineapple, strawberries, mangoes)
couple handfuls of frozen strawberries
water

To achieve the layer structure, you’ll want to blend the strawberry layer separately from the tropical fruit layer and the banana/mango layer then pour them in glasses alternating them.  If you don’t care to have the layer structure, just throw everything into the blender at once and go!

Strawberry “Milkshake”

(an ode to the Strawberry Quik of yesteryear!)

1 pint fresh, local, organic strawberries (when possible)
1 pink frozen strawberries
1/4 cup plain greek, coconut or almond milk yogurt
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
water for desired consistency

Combine in your Blendtec (or other similar kitchen appliance) and select smoothie.

Orange Creamsicle

My favorite popsicle as a kid was the orange creamsicle.  It was so refreshing on a summer day.  This smoothie truly brings the taste of that popsicle to our day!

creamsicle

1 orange, preferably local, organic
1/4 cup plain greek, coconut or almond milk yogurt
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
ice or mandarin oranges
water for desired consistency

Combine in your Blendtec (or other similar kitchen appliance) and select smoothie.

Peach “Daiquiri” Smoothie

Now, this is, of course, a non-alcoholic version, but you could add a little rum if you’re in the mood for that authentic Friday Afternoon Happy Hour vibe.
