Meet Cassandra

cassandrapbbHi, I’m Cassandra, the owner of Powered By BLING, LLC dba XFL Fitness & Lifestyle Coaching. I’m the fitness instructor, runner, triathlete and blogger behind XFL Fitness & Lifestyle Coaching. I’m a National Academy of Sports Medicine  Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT) and an Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Group Exercise Instructor. My goal is to inspire and empower you to live a more active, healthy life as you Challenge Yourself to Cross Your Own Personal Finish Lines #CrossYourFinishLines.

I grew up in Ohio and spent most of my teen years in Avon Lake, OH. After getting my undergraduate degree, I moved to Washington, DC where I studied to earn my Masters. I have a B.S. in Psychology, a B.S. in Chemistry and a Masters in Forensic Science. I work full-time as a Forensic Scientist and have for almost 20 years! If you want to learn more about me, check out this list of 30 Things About me.

My husband, Joe, and I got married in 2003. My better half is the yin to my yang.  While I’m the crazy Type A, OCD one, he’s the calm, rational, laid back Type PBBB half of our partnership.  The Hubby is a runner at heart, having run cross country in high school and continuing to run daily.  At the age of 52, he can still run a 5:20 mile in 1 mile races, a sub-22:00 minute 5K and a 1:36.00 Half Marathon pace.  Needless to say, he runs the front of the pack while I bring in the back of the pack (LOL)!

In 2005, we had our amazing daughter, who you’ll come to know as Mini Me. What can I say about Mini Me?  Well, my friends have often described her as me on crack.  So, if you thought I was a Type A overachiever, enter Mini Me.  Like her mama, she wants to be involved in everything.  She’s wiser than her years, believe me.

gaztelugatxe-bilbao-2Mini Me is already an accomplished athlete in her own right.  She swims year round on 2 different swim teams.  Of course, her overachiever mom runs her Fall/Winter swim team.  In addition to that, she plays basketball, tennis and runs track.  She has also played Travel Soccer and was a member of the Mini Cow Triathlon Team. Her hangout is homage to her athletic accomplishments with medals, trophies and certificates strategically placed on shelves, secured in matted picture frames and hanging from BLING racks.

In 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Mini Me was just getting ready to turn 5 years old. That diagnoses started me on the path to finding my purpose. I had wanted to be a forensic scientist since I was a little girl, but having lived through a very difficult life altering experience I came to realize that I hadn’t yet fulfilled my purpose.

I am currently training for an Olympic triathlon with the goal of doing my first Ironman 70.3 in 2018.

Together with my husband (and sometimes our daughter), I have run more than a half marathon (2 more slated for 2017), 1 10K and countless 5Ks. I have also completed 12 sprint triathlons. My goal for this year’s half marathon races is a sub-3:00 finish.

We love our BLING so much, we each crafted our own BLING racks which hang proudly in various rooms in our home.  For our family, this BLING represents much more than the medal hanging on the wall. They are symbols of our family’s victory over a cancer diagnosis, our love of competition and our commitment to being active together as a family.

Welcome to our family! START HERE to allow me the privilege of helping you #CrossYourFinishLines
